Title:  Java jGrasp -  Serialization - Lesson 1

Duration: 15:56 min

Description: In this video we continue our discussion on overloading/overriding by creating classes for employees and managers. Then we move into serialization. We need a way to write objects into a permament store. However, it is very tedious to write the objects one field at a time. Instead, we are going to use methods that allow us to write the whole object at once. We added the Serializable interface to the Employee class. Then, we created a menu driven app that asks the user to add employees/managers to an ArrayList, and then being able to retrieve it and print it on the screen.

Methodology: Using libraries to serialize objects.

Technologies: Object-oriented programming, Serialization.

Examples constructed: creating an example that constracts classes for employees and managers. Then we start constructing a menu driven application that serializes and retrieves the employees and managers and print them out on the screen.

Key words: overriding, overloading, class, constructor, default constructor, Serializable, ArrayList, Collections, ObjectInputStream, readObject.
