This video presents a brief introduction to two graphical user interfaces tools that can be used to administer a PostgreSQL database on the Ubuntu Linux: the PgAdmin III and the PhpPgAdmin. The first tool, PgAdmin III, is an open source tool that can be downloaded from the following web site: http://www.pgadmin.org/. This tool is used to perform many administrative tasks, such as backup, restore and configure server settings through a GUI interface. Furthermore, the video show a web-based tool called PhpPgAdmin, which is also an open source project that can be downloaded from the following web site: http://phppgadmin.sourceforge.net/. The PhpPgadmin is a web based tool, meaning that a web browser is required to use it. The DBA can use the PhpPgadmin tool to perform many administrative task and also send SQL commands directly on the browser. Also, this tool provide options to monitor and to ajust key settings in order to improve the performance of the database and the server.
