Hello everybody. My name is Mauro Picchiliani, and this is the first video of the web application development in Sharepoint 2010 course. This course will focus on the development of our applications in Sharepoint 2010, in many aspects. Since Sharepoint 2010 is a huge platform for developing applications, work flows, internets and other solutions, we are going to take it slow and first install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise on this Windows 2008 server 64-bit platform.
So the first thing I'm going to do is insert the cd or the dvd with the product, which I've already done. Then I will open the set up file over here. We have a lot of requirements to install Sharepoint, and I will discuss them throughout the installation. The first thing is that the installer is preparing the necessary files for the installation. And one important aspect that we must take care of, is the internet connection. During the set up process it may be necessary to download several requirements such as Silverlight SQL server 2008 Express, Dot Net Framework, 4.0 and Internet information server. All these files will be downloaded automatically by the installer since these are pre-requirements for installation of this product.
As I said before, the installer lists several requirements needed for the installation. Here we have single serve SQL server 2008, client and other aspects. Also notice IIS 6 management component is required to install. So this screen tells us to install these required prerequisites, by selecting and installing software prerequisites options on this flash screen, which is what we're going to do. We have over here this prerequisite installer which I am going to run. And we can see that we have the list of prequirements software. All the software needs to be downloaded since this is a brand new Windows 2008 server 64-bit installation. I will follow this wizard, and click accept the terms and license agreement. And next I will have to wait for the dowload and the installation of the tools. These steps may require a lot of time depending on your internet connection. So I will wait for this process to finish, and continue the installation process after that.
Now that all the requirements are installed, we have a list over here with these requirements installed. We have to restart the computer. We can also check the log file to see the details about the installation of these requirements. As we can see over here, there are several of them, including components of the operating system, updates and also SQL server, Dot Net Framework, Silverlight, IES components and others. Let's restart the computer, and actually begin the installation of Sharepoint 2010 server, on this Windows 2008 server 64-bits. Let me restart it, and we'll continue after the restart of the server.
After rebooting the server and applying the upgrades and the prerequirements, we can see that we have an installation complete window that shows us all the components that were installed. If we have some mistake or problem during the installation of these requirements, we have to keep trying until all of them are installed. Otherwise, we will not be able to install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise server on this Windows over here. So I will finish that window and go back again to the installation of Sharepoint 2010. I will double-click on the set up installation file, and now we are going to see that the previews screen asking us about the requirements was not shown again. What we have to do now is enter our product key to continue the installation. I will enter my product key and click on the continue button to see the next screen.
After the product key was entered I have this license agreement screen over here. But just let me highlight that we have different product keys for each version, trial, standard and enterprise. Here I used a key that I already have for a trial of the product. So I will click the accept the license terms agreement of the [inaudible 00:05:49 and user license agreement and click on the continue button. I will choose the stand alone installation for the server, which is the single server installation. We can also use a server form with several 2003, 2008 Windows products working as a form for the Sharepoint. But I used the stand alone option. Next we are going to install the trial version of the Sharepoint server. We must remember that it will consume a lot of disk space, so be prepared to have at least 20 gigabytes of free disk space on the server.
After the installation we will continue to see how we can check if everything went okay during the installation process. Again it may take a while because there are several files that need to be copied and installed using the automatic installer. After the installation process finishes we are asked about the configuration user. If you want to use the configuration user right now, let's mark this option and click close. As we can see, the configuration wizard will be shown over here. Since Sharepoint is a web platform for development, we are going to configurate out of the days using web applications.
But before that let's take a look at the wizard to configure the Sharepoint product's service. It shows the information about some service that needs to be started or read during configuration. You can click "yes" because it is a normal process. Just stop and start the services. Also we have new services installed, such as the Microsoft Excel server 2008 Express. So let's wait for this configuration to finish because it is an automatic process.
Now that the configuration process finished we are ready to start using Sharepoint 2010. Again it is important to know, that the installation process did a lot of the full settings for the product. One of them is the use of the administrator logging which is the user [insudible 00:08:27] and current log in. But as we can see by this information over here, if you want to use other users, you will be prompted for the user name and password of them. We have to configurate and insert these users on the local computer which is on my [inaudible 00:08:48]. Or if you are using [inaudible 00:08:50] in that domain we have to go to that [inaudible 00:08:59] action the domain and create the users over there. So if I'm staying local without a domain, I would just use the administrator user and password that I already have. Let me click finish over here and show you that now we have some icons on the start menu over here, Sharepoint 2010 products. The web browser is automatically opened. We can see that it is pointed to the V-class address which is the name of the server. And since the installator created an IIS [inaudible 00:09:30] directory, we will access it. But first we have to provide the credentials, which in this case is the administrator logging in. Again if you want to use another user you have to create it locally or in the active directory server. While the internet explorer loads the initial configurator screen for Sharepoint. I will explain over here so we can see that this screen is loaded. Let me maximize it right here and we have this theme plate selection because this is the standard action for a new application.
I will show to you that now we have over here this folder called Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 products, with some options. These options over here allow the customization and configuration of Sharepoint. One of the most important is this one, the center administration Sharepointer, which again is a web page. But we can see here with that this configurator has a different TCP port. As a matter of fact, Sharepoint server has many TCP ports, but for the users they will only access the IP address of the server in the standard web port which is 80. We can create DNS or other namely resolution methods but for the administration we have this other address over here. Let me log in. And we can see now that this is the administrator for Sharepoint, in its web user interface. We can configurate a lot of options over here, when we are working with this platform. We can do that locally which is my case, or we can do it remotely using the credentials provided by the active directory users. So we can see that we have all the options for administration of Sharepoint 2010.
Another important aspect, is that we have many servers that were installed. We can see that we have single server with a standard database. We have Silverlight which is a framework. And if we check this maintenance option over here, as a matter of fact let me check the administrator tools. We can see that we have many services installed. Let's take a look on server manager to see the services that we have and how to administer them. As a matter of fact, when we installed Sharepoint 2010 we have several add-ins put on this interface over here. So before the installation we had just a few options, but now we have more options: rows, features and these other items over here are already in the server but now we have options for work with Sharepoint 2010.
Okay. So now that we have a server manager let me close it, and let me show to you the services, which are the main options that were installed as operating system perspectives. We can go over here to administrative tools and we have the services options, that show to us all the services were installed. We have some services here for instance, we have ASP.net, we have many Dot Net framework services and some services referring to [inaudible 00:13:49]. This is the service that we are going to use during the course in a transparent way. Also we have SQL server services, that must be installed and up and running. In this case they're named for instance of SQL Server 2008 Express. All of these are already set up so we can start to use Sharepoint. But if you have any kind of problem with any of the services, you will not be able to use Sharepoint as a platform. We are going to talk later on in the course about the fundamentals and the framework, the platform of Sharepoint before building web applications. This is it for this video, where you learn how to install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise on Windows 2008 server 64-bit machine. This is it. I hope to see you on the next video of the course. Goodbye.
