CRUD operation in Hibernate

This article will discuss about basic CRUD operations in hibernate.

Today, we are going to discuss about basic CRUD operations in Hibernate.

Pre requirement

We are going to discuss about 4 main functionality:

  • Create a record
  • Read a record
  • Update a Record
  • Delete a Record

We make a class Course and we will perform the CRUD operation on this class.

Listing 1: Course class

        return name;

  • We defined a class Course with fields like id, name, duration.
  • We define the setter and getter function for these.
  • We set the id to be auto generated and also we set the name for this column to be C_ID.

Now we define the configuration file.

  • We defined the configuration parameter for the database
  • We also defined the mapping class

Now we define the Utility class which will be used to obtain instance of session factory

Now we will describe each process

Create Operation :

        Transaction tx = s.beginTransaction();

        Course c1 = new Course();
        c1.setName("Hibernate");
        c1.setDuration(6);
        s.save(c1);

        tx.commit();
    }
}
 
  • Firstly, We made a session instance with help of session factory object.
  • Now we start the transactionWe made an object for Course
  • We set the values of course name and its duration.
  • .
  • We save this course object using the session variable.
  • We commit the transaction to make the changes permanent
  • After run it creates a record with course name as hibernate and duration as 6.The id is autogenerated.In this case we take it as 1.

Read Operation :

        Course c = (Course) s.load(Course.class, 1l);

        System.out.println("Name :" + c.getName() + " and Duration :" + c.getDuration());

        tx.commit();
    }
} 
  • Firstly, We made a session instance with help of session factory object.
  • Now we start the transactionWe load the course having id as 1 using session.load method
  • We show the name and duration of course using the getter method
  • We commit the transaction to make the changes permanent
  • After run it shows a record with course name as hibernate and duration as 6.

Update Operation :

  • Firstly, We made a session instance with help of session factory object.
  • Now we start the transaction.
  • We load the course having id as 1 using session.load method
  • We set the new duration of course 1 as 8 now.
  • We use the update function of session to update this object.
  • We commit the transaction to make the changes permanent

Delete Operation :

  • Firstly, We made a session instance with help of session factory object.
  • Now we start the transaction.
  • We load the course having id as 1 using session.load method.
  • We use the delete function of session to delete this object from database.
  • We commit the transaction to make the changes permanent
