Although components can provide size and alignment hints, a container's layout manager has the final say on the size and position of the components within the container. In Demonstration have samples with following layouts:

1.    FlowLayout Manager

2.    BorderLayout Manager

Methodology of the development of example:  Create simple GUI using Flow and Border Layouts.
